Nagatani-en was founded in 1832 and has been run by Nagatani family for 8 generations, they are situated in a very quiet village surrounded by nature. Once you enter their property, it feels like you have time-travelled into the distant past.

They make artisanal donabe and Iga-yaki pottery. This double-lid donabe rice cooker, “Kamado-san” has a unique style, it can cook perfect shiny rice with some simple easy steps. A donabe is very versatile, it can be used several ways for cooking different meals. It is a genuine traditional Japanese aesthetic piece.

Gathering your loved ones around the donabe for cooking meals at the dining table makes everyday meal time more fun and meaningful. 


These donabe are made with traditional Iga workmanship. Iga is an ancient province with 1,300 years of history. Iga-Yaki is considered to be one of the most highly regarded regional potteries of Japan. There are many ways to cook with a donabe and it is very important how you care for your donabe to give it a long life.

How to season your Donabe

Because Iga-style donabe is made from porous clay, it needs to be seasoned to prevent leaking or cracking. We suggest that you season the donabe by making thick over-cooked rice. 

It's a simple procedure to make your donabe last for many, many years.
