Great nesting, the environmental way...

Great nesting, eco life ...

Great nesting,
the environmental way...

The world we live in today is all about the short term and convenience. Surrounded by plastic solutions to eat, drink, carry, store, anything and everything is made with plastic. We would like to encourage a better way of looking after ourselves and our environment.

Firstly, say no to plastic bags whenever possible, take a reusable fabric or hessian bag with you when go shopping. Another important practice is how you store your food. Once a plastic container gets old you throw it out which ends up in a landfill or in the ocean. It takes from 450 - 1000 years for plastic bottles and containers to decompose !

There are many lovely alternatives to plastic for your pantry and fridge. Gorgeous glass, copper, tin, ceramic and enamel containers are plentiful in most homeware stores. It might cost a little more to invest but you can gradually swap over from plastic and eventually you will have a beautiful storage system which will last forever. Aside from the aesthetic and environmental benefits, it is better for you! Plastic containers can leak small amounts of the chemicals used to make the plastic into your food. The amount increases if the container becomes hot or if touches fatty, salty, or acidic foods.

There are so many reasons to move away from this
obsession, we have with plastic, we urge you to start changing back to a more beautiful and natural way of everyday living...
We offer some great products at AAAselect for your storage, replacing your plastic goods...

Use Furoshiki to replace your disposable shopping bags!

Furoshiki is a traditional Japanese square cloth used for carrying clothes, gifts, food and other goods. It's a great environmental alternative for disposable plastic bags and the like, which has seen it rise in popularity in Japan and abroad.

It's super versatile with a number of ways to fold, for creating different shaped bags and bundles for different purposes. Some of the great ways you can fold your Furoshiki can be found here.

KONOMI has created their own contemporary Furoshiki with stunning geometric patterns for your own modern/traditional eco bag. Available from here.

AAAselect is going to demonstrate some of the amazing ways to fold furoshiki
We will be doing an in-store demonstration at the lovely The Shelter in Ponsonby. It will be fun to learn some variations to fold the furoshiki for different purposes out of one large piece of cloth. It'd also be a great opportunity to meet us there and we can answer any questions about our products & our work.

No bookings required! Just come in and join us. Pencil it in your diary - Sat 23rd & Sun 24th July from 11am - 2pm, grab a coffee / lunch from the lovely 'Eat' cafe in The Shelter while you're learning .
